Should I Wear Contact Lenses for my Eye Exam

Should I wear contact lenses for my eye exam?

The answer to this question depends on what type of exam you will be receiving. There are two types of exams that you could be going to, and it is important to know ahead of time what kind of exam you are going for. The two types of exams are standard eye exams and contact lens exams. This guide will help you to learn more about each exam and how to prepare for them.

Regular Eye Exam

It is highly recommended that you get an eye exam every year to two years. If going for a regular eye exam, it is important for you to remember to take out your contact lenses at least two hours before the exam or you can choose to wear your glasses that day. While getting an eye exam, some people will opt to go ahead and get fitted for new contacts as well. If this is the case, it is sometimes easier to keep your contacts out so that it is easier for your eye doctor to examine your eyes.

Contact Lens Exam

A contact lens exam is typically a follow-up appointment. If you have already had the eye exam and have been fitted for contacts, it is common for you to come back in for your eye doctor to check the fit of the lens. Therefore, you will need to be wearing your contacts (unless there is a problem with them, such as discomfort) for this appointment. At this appointment, your eye doctor will check the fit of your lenses and make sure that your eyes are comfortable and adjusting accordingly.
